ROSA IS ON FIRE
hey friends!!
I am finally in California! I have been here for a week and lets just say, it is nothing like the MTC (understatement of the century). I am serving right in Santa Rosa and I love it here. The minute I stepped off the plane, I just felt like I was home. It is so beautiful here and I love the people. I am in a trio with Hermana Hansen (my trainer) and hermana Godoy (she has been here for 1 transfer more than me so she is also being trained). I love them both so much!! Exciting news: we got 7 new investigators since I have been here which is apparently super super awesome! I placed a book of mormon my first day AND i got to extend my first baptismal invite on day 2 and Salvador said yes so he is getting baptized november 11 and I am so excited for him!!! So it has been a very exciting but also pretty hard first week. We speak in English a lot so it is hard to feel like I am progressing in Spanish, but little by little it is coming. I just love it here!!
In less exciting news, i dont know how many of you have heard, but there is a pretty bad fire sweeping through Santa Rosa right now. You know how you always get asked "What would you save in a fire?" Well today I got to find out. Turns out my list of items I brought to the church with me include: my shoulder bag and the things typically in there. My scriptures, my journal, my book of pictures from home, toothbrush, deodorant, two necklaces that mean a lot to me and two extra changes of clothes. It was honestly interesting to really step back and see what I really cared about when it came down to it. Luckily, I dont think the fire is going to make it to my aparttment (we evacuated this morning as a precaution) and I wont have to live off these items. A lot of the missionaries had to evacuate their homes at like 3am and apparently theres quite a few buildings burning down. A lot of people, missionaries and members, are just gathered at different churches in safe places. People are bringing food and we just all said a prayer together and it is really cool to see people bond together like this. The whole time I havent been worried about my own safety but I am concerned for quite a few investigators. We wont know until later how everybody and their homes are but a lot of people live in dangerous areas. So if you get a chance, we would really appreciate a few extra prayers sent this way.
OH and i know it has been a week already but I hope you all LOVED conference!! If you didnt get a chance to listen, I would encourage you to do so because it was amazing!! I definitely took conference for granted before the mission but these men and women and called of God and speak his words. They are exactly what we need in this time and it is so important to k now what the prophet is saying to us right now. If you did get a chance to watch, what were your favorite talks or quotes from the whole thing? I would also encourage you to review them and find a way to actually make an improvement in your life.
Anyways that is about all! Ill probably find some pictures to send later. I love you all so much!!!
