THE SPIRIT OF GOD LIKE A FIRE IS BURNING
hey friends!!
How are you all? I hope you are doing good and loving life and finding reasons to be happy everyday and thanking God for all your many blessings are reading the Book of Mormon!
So it has been a bit of a weird week with all the fires and stuff. We have all been displaced at some point and for 2 nights we had all 13 of the sisters in the Santa Rosa zone staying in our 2 bedroom apartment and then for two more nights we had 9 of us. It was a little cramped and a little crazy. So basically every apartment got evacuated except for ours and the zone leaders who live in the same complex as us so thats where the elders all stayed. It was fun for a minute though because we dont see the English speaking sisters as much so we got to hang out with them a lot more than usual.
The first couple days it was hard to find much work. We didnt have anything to do on tuesday or wednesday really because the air quality was too bad that President didn't want us to go out and a lot of the areas were evacuated anyways. Lots of people left town so there wasn't much work anyways. We got quite a bit of extra study time and then we would go to the church to see if there were things we could help out with there. It was really cool to see all the ward members come together to provide for the lots of peope that are having to stay in the church because they are still evacuated or their homes have burned down. Love of God and of all men is really the center of what we preach, it is the doctrine of Christ, and we are able to show that through service so I really have loved getting to see everybody practice what we preach. One of our senior missionary couples, the Wolffs (they're from Australia), go to the church every night to see if somebody wants to come back and stay in their home for the evening. One night they found a nonmember to come back to their home. The next morning, the lady was on the phone with her brother and told him that she was staying with some mormons and he said "Thats wonderful. Thats what Mormons do." I think it is really really awesome that that is what we are known for. That is the message that I here to share. There is something special about this church and its members and people can see that. Remember that even if you arent serving a full time mission, people can see who you are and are watching what you do so make sure the message you are showing to the world is the one you want them t hear.
We haven't gotten to do much service in the streets yet because the fires are still going. We will be working with Helping Hands though after everything calms down and there is clean up and different things to do. I am super excited about that! Until then though, work carries on as normal. I have found that I love tracting! I dont know why but that is just my favorite thing to do. Contacting people in the streets is harder for me but I'll knock some doors any day! We have a couple hispanic investigators that prefer to speak in English so we will still teach them and I have found that I really love teaching because of that. I like teaching in Spanish too but because my comprehension isnt great yet, I spend a lot of time listening and and just trying to really understand what my investigators are saying and feeling. I am slowly starting to be able to speak more and comprehend quicker so I am hopeful for the future haha.
I was reading a talk by President Monson this week from October 2013 called "I will not fail thee or forsake thee" and I just loved this quote, "From the bed of pain, from the pillow wet with tears, we are lifted heavenward by that divine assurance and precious promise: “I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” Such comfort is priceless." Everything we have is replacable honestly. that is something that I have learned. But the knowledge of the gospel is truly priceless. The atonement of Jesus Christ is the greatest gift that has ever been given. Remember it in every moment and you will always be able to feel peace and comfort.
Exciting things that have happened this week:we got 6 new investigators, I got alpaca socks, we had a really awesome lesson with Salvador (our fav) in the chapel, and i got to go to chickfila!
oh hey if anybody has any good riddles or mind games, please send them my way because they have become the highlight of my zone's gatherings lol. thanks homies.

scripture of the week: Matthew 11:28-30 "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
