I LOVE TO SEE THE TEMPLE
Happy New Year friends!
These past two weeks have been good! Last weeks Pday got changed to Thursday because we got to go to the temple!!! Yay!! Seriously it was so needed. But because it is out of our mission, it takes a little while to get there and back and so it took up almost our whole day and thats why I didnt have a chance to write much last week. But I am seriously just blown away by the blessings of the temple. I had had a few really frustrating, really hard days leading up to our temple trip and during interviews with my mission president, he gave me some great advice on what kind of question I needed to take to the temple. I am so grateful for the opportunity to go and serve in the temple this past week. The spirit I was able to feel was incredible and the answers to my questions were unexpected but exactly what I needed. I LOVE THE TEMPLE!
I live in a fourman with two English sisters and Sister Roemer is from Switzerland so she has some different food interests than the rest of us. Anyways we had lunch together the other day and she got us to go to a restaurant called King Falafel. I have never been very good at trying new foods but I dug up all my courage and ordered something mildly scary and yeah we will just say that we will likely not be going back to King Falafel. But hey at least I can say I know what a falafel is now.
We had this crazy lesson the other day! We were working on one of our favorite streets and I decided that we needed to just go stop by one of our investigators houses that we hadnt seen in a while and see how she was doing and if we could set up an appointment. As we were walking away from her house, we ran into a man named Alberto (he lives across from her) who we had talked to in the streets before but never been able to meet with. He was with his friend Mario and they just invited us right in and we had the craziest but one of the coolest lessons! They are very religious and know their bible really well and had lots and lots of questions. It was a bit of a heated discussion as we tried to teach the Restoration and answer all their deep doctrinal questions (IN SPANISH) but it wasnt like a bible bash because they had a genuine interest and desire to learn and it was really cool trying to help them understand. They just want to know everything right away and it was really cool. We left it with all of us having plans to study so we could meet again. I had never left a lesson feeling so excited to study and learn more of the truth to be able to help someone else learn too. Also they invited us to their new years eve party the next night so we stopped by for just a minute and thought it was really cool that on new years eve they were hanging out with their church friends.
Last sunday was crazy! So apparently the 5th sunday of the month, the missionaries are in charge of. But that hasnt been for a few months and i think only 1 or 2 of the 7 spanish missionaries were serving here the last time it happened and our ward mission leader is out of town so nobody told us.So we get to ward council on Sunday morning and find out that we are supposed to have the sacrament program figured out and I literally have never felt so panicked in my entire life. I actually really like to speak in church but I need adequate time to prepare a talk and now i need time to translate into spanish too but i had approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to figure out what I was going to say. It was the most stressed I have ever felt. The 3 missionaries that spoke before me all took longer than they thought they were going to, and we threw together a ukelele musical number so when I got up we only had like 5 minutes of the meeting left and there were 3 missionaries that were prepared to speak after me too. I got up and spoke for approximately 3 minutes and sat down and then the bishop closed the meeting hahaha so yeah my first experience speaking in church (not including the MTC) was a bit of a mess. I am now going to take some time to write out like 2 or 3 different talks to be able to use in future situations like this.
Last cool thing! Our area covers another city called Sebastopol but there are very few hispanics there and its kind of out of the way so we dont go there often. Actually never really. I hadnt been there in my first 2 transfers here. So me and Hermana Derr decided to take some time on saturday to try to contact the small handful of potentials we had there. One of them was named Lorenzo but when we looked at his address, all it said was "sebastopol." So we were like wow really helpful! So we called him and he didnt answer but then called us back later and we had a really conusing conversation where he just kept saying "no" and we didnt know what was happening. Finally we figured out that it was lorenzo, he said we could meet, and then he came to church the next day!! We ended up skipping sunday school which was about temples and family history becausee we didnt want to take him to that quite yet and we just taught him about the restoration and he is GOLDEN. He kept talking about how he used to be cathoilc but just didnt feel good there, but he feels good here and can just tell this is a good thing and he has so many plans to bring people to church next week and go talk to everyone in his apartment complex because he thinks they would be interested and it was so so so cool! I am so excited about him!
Okay sorry this email was really long but lots of cool things have happened the past 2 weeks. I love you all and hope you have a fantastic week!!
