THANKFUL
Hi friends!!
Sorry this is coming a few days late this week. We had a last minute opportunity to go to the temple so we are doing that later today (I'M SO EXCITED!!) but I didn't get a chance to warn you about the pday switch.
How was everybody's Thanksgiving?? We had 2 so we were completely stuffed at the end of the night. That morning we were invited to play in a Turkey Bowl and I learned just how bad I am at football. I cant catch to save my life. It was disappointing because i actually like football a lot so ill need to work on my skills when I get back so I can prepare for next year!! Hopefully my team captain, aka the 1st counselor in the stake presidency, doesnt associate my missionary skills with my football skills, haha. Anyways, first we got to go over to Maddie's house and spend some time with her family. It was lots of fun and so good to be with them because her whole family is non members. Then we got to a family in the other ward, The Kennedys. I love them too! Sister Kennedy is actually who is taking us to the temple today ❤ both dinners were delicious. I found myself eating more rolls with butter than anything else but I'm not going to claim it as my favorite thanksgiving food because you eat it all year. So the stuffing was really good too 😊
Last Saturday Napa had a Christmas parade and Hermana Gardner and I thought that would be a great time to talk to lots of people so we took some Light the World pass along cards and put an invitation to sacrament meeting on the 23rd on them and taped candy canes to them and handed them out like crazy. It was so much fun!! We only had around 120 and they were gone really fast so we will be more prepared for future events. Hopefully some cards got to whoever they needed to and we will see some new faces at sacrament meeting.
A lady was visiting from Washington DC and we actually missed her because we were in the other ward, but she wrote on our dinner calendar to go stop by her parents. So we went to go see Cliff and Cara and they are the sweetest! They invited us in right away and there was just a good feeling in their home. We had some really great conversations and I think we established a good relationship. They aren't necessarily super interested right now, but I feel like we could pop by whenever and they would be open to visits. We are planning on Caroling to them with some members in their neighborhood so we can add in some more ties to the church. And if there is one thing I know it's that music and Christmas are both fantastic ways to warm people's hearts, so maybe something will come from it.
We usually meet with Rose and Eric on Sundays but last week they had to cancel last minute and then this week they had something come up again, so we rescheduled for Monday night at 8. This wouldn't be too out of the ordinary except for the fact that they live in Lake Berryessa which is a 45 minute drive up the "mountains." It's super windy and there are LOTS of deer. And we decided to take it on at night because we needed to see them. It was TERRIFYING. It all turned out okay and we got home safe but I do not want to do that again, haha. It was so good to see them though but it was a little crazy because Rose's 3 year old, Tiffany, was there, but, also, Eric's 4 year old, Evelyn, was too!! Eric hadn't seen her since July so that was exciting but I had been hearing about her for the past 5 months and it was so fun to meet her. They are doing good but just have a lot of life complications. Right now they are trying to find a house/apartment and if they can do that, they will be a lot closer on their path to baptism because they don't want to file for Erica divorce until they have a better place to live because Eric wants primary custody of Evelyn. So they can't get married until he gets divorced and they don't want to live separately until then either. Plus there's some other things they're working on but to hear they are putting offers in on place to live makes us so happy!! They'll get there one day, I'm just grateful to be a part of the journey in some way.
We did the COOLEST thing on Tuesday! We were having district council and
President Wagner comes in to tell us that the police officers and firemen are doing a co-training for active shooter scenarios in the building. Then he asked us if we wanted to be volunteer victims. He got it cleared with our mission President so then we got to pretend to be victims with gun shot wounds (pieces of tape that said GSW) that they needed to treat and then get out. We had to scream for help and just try to make it as realistic as possible. IT WAS SO FUN!!! They do a couple different scenarios and funniest part is that in the last one, they do one where they think it's clear but then shots start going off as if the shooter is coming back. In certain situations like that, the armed forces stay but the firemen are just their for medical help and aren't armed so they are told to get out but it's their decision if they think they can get the victim out with them fast enough. So when the shots start going off and their instructed to run, hermana Gardner's guy left her but the guy working with me started dragging me and had to drag me completely over her because she was laying across the floor and she was so offended haha. It's okay though because then there was an elder laying across the hallway too and he gave up and left me too. But the whole thing was so fun!!! We got to talk to the guys for a while so it was good exposure and you never know what they will remember about missionaries down the line. Once I get the pictures from President Wagner, I will send them.
Okay I know this was long, but thanks for reading. I just want you all to know how much I love being here. This time is filled with once in a lifetime opportunities and I'm so grateful that God has put me here and is letting me experience them. God is good, guys. Love you lots!
Love,
